Homeopathy – does it work?

In 2009 leading pharmacies admitted that they didn’t believe homeopathic medicine works. Yet, despite this discovery and repeated scientific studies which prove that homeopathy produces little results, the National Health Service still managed to spend over four million pounds last year researching homeopathic medicines.

Astonished by the NHS and leading Pharmacies; no harm; theories to homeopathy, over three hundred sceptics are now planning to partake in a group homeopathic binge to help increase public knowledge about the fact that homeopathy is a myth.

During this protest which took place on the 30th January 2010, all those actively involved in the protest will openly swallow in public a complete box of 60 homeopathic pills to show that they are nothing more than fakes and hopefully prompt pharmacies to stop selling them.

Where was Homeopathy discovered?

Described by many as ‘herbal medicine’ the majority of the ingredients found within this complementary herbal medicine are so miniscule that there is nothing left to them. However further studies into the birth of homeopathy has found that there is nothing herbal about it, but that it is solely based on three central tenets produced in the 1800’s by Samuel Hahnemann.

Three tenets which are still utilised in the offering of homeopathic medicine to this day:

  • The Law of Similars where whatever caused your illness will also cure them i.e. unable to sleep, take caffeine
  • The Law of Infinitesimals where the more diluted the remedy is from fluids, the more strong it will be
  • The Law of Succession where vigorous stirring of a homeopathic remedy would enhance its potency

Assessing this historical background, it is easy to see why sceptics are asking the government to command the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence to evaluate whether it is appropriate for the National Health Service to fund homeopathy.

Providing limited if any results, all clinical trials have the same conclusion that they will not improve your well-being.
